FOLLOW-UP INFORMATION

Reports by Societies:

Consultations:

• The Department of Culture, Media and Sport consultation on Protecting the Historic Environment is listed on our ODPM and DfT News page under 17 July.  The deadline for comments is 31 October.  Click to see Carolyn Cumming's comments as sent to the Civic Trust on behalf of the Buckingham Society.
• Carolyn also drew our attention to the current consultation on changes to PPG3 - also on our ODPM and DfT News page under 17 July with the same deadline for comments (31 October).

Regional Affairs - click for:

• the website of the East of England Local Government Conference which contains details of the East of England Regional Assembly.  (Strangely, there is not yet a site entitled “EERA”.)

Light Pollution

• the CPRE website contains a section about their light pollution campaign where you can find maps and tables of light pollution in specific regions including the South-East and East of England Regions.  (I have been unable to find any raw data on the NOAA site.)
• The Select Committee report was issued on 6 October.  It comes to 73 pages and PDF and browsable html versions are available for download on the publications page of the Science and Technology Committee – hard copy is £12.00.

Countryside character

• there is a section of the CPRE website devoted to their Countryside Character Campaign, including details of how you can contribute to “The Countryside Character Indicators Market Town Survey, to measure the extent of blandness in market towns”.  There is a lot more information on this website including, for example, how to conduct a “landscape character assessment.”  Carolyn Cumming of the Buckingham Society pointed out that this should also be related to the work done by Common Ground, and to the Town Design Statements currently being promoted by the Countryside Agency (and there is a great deal more related material on the Countryside Agency’s site).  (See also Carolyn’s talk on her experience with the Buckingham Design Statement at the ANTAS meeting in Buckingham in April 2001).

 Logos

• it was suggested that Societies should include the ANTAS logo on their notepaper and newsletters.  These are shown below.  Also included are the “Registered with the Civic Trust" which are taken from the Civic Trust website but resaved in a gif format and a suitable size that is easier to use.  (If you prefer to download them from the Civic Trust site, you may need to change the extension from "ps" to "eps" for your system to recognise the file type.)  Right-click on the graphic and then click on "Save Picture As".  In some contexts you may like to use the words "member of" above the ANTAS logo, as shown.  You may prefer to crop the narrow line from the top of the Civic Trust logos.
